    Analytical modeling of open-Circuit air-Gap field distributions in multisegment and multilayer interior permanent-magnet machines

    Get PDF
    We present a simple lumped magnetic circuit model for interior permanent-magnet (IPM) machines with multisegment and multilayer permanent magnets. We derived analytically the open-circuit air-gap field distribution, average air-gap flux density, and leakage fluxes. To verify the developed models and analytical method, we adopted finite-element analysis (FEA). We show that for prototype machines, the errors between the FEA and analytically predicted results are 1% for multisegment IPM machines and 2% for multilayer IPM machines. By utilizing the developed lumped magnetic circuit models, the IPM machines can be optimized for maximum fundamental and minimum total harmonic distortion of the air-gap flux density distribution

    FISH karyotype of 85 common wheat cultivars/lines displayed by ND-FISH using oligonucleotide probes

    Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) can reveal minor structural differences of chromosomes. The karyotype of common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) based on FISH pattern is seldom reported. In this study, non-denaturing FISH (ND-FISH) using Oligo-pSc119.2-1, Oligo-pTa535-1 and (AAG)6 as probes was used to investigate the chromosomal structure of 85 common wheat including 83 wheat-rye 1RS.1BL translocation cultivars/lines, a wheatrye 1RS.1AL translocation cultivar Amigo and Chinese Spring (CS). Two, three, two, three, six, three and four structural types respectively for 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A and 7A chromosomes were observed. Two, eight, two, two, four and six types of chromosome for 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, 6B and 7B were respectively detected. The structure of 1B chromosomes in Amigo and CS is different. Five, two, two and two types of chromosomal structure respectively for 1D, 2D, 3D and 5D were distinguished. Polymorphisms of 1RS.1BL, 4D, 6D and 7D chromosomes were not detected. Chromosomes 1AI, 2AI, 3AI, 4AI, 5AIII, 6AI, 7AIII, 2BI, 3BV, 4BI, 5BII, 6BIII, 7BI, 1DIV, 2DI, 3DI and 5DII appeared in these 85 wheat cultivars/lines at high frequency. Each of the 85 wheat cultivars/lines has a unique karyotype. Amigo is a complex translocation cultivar. The FISH karyotype of wheat chromosomes built in this study provide a reference for the future analyzing wheat genetic stocks and help to learn structural variations of wheat chromosomes. In addition, the results in this study indicate that oligonucleotide probes and ND-FISH technology can be used to identify individual wheat cultivar

    Localized Random Lasing Modes and a New Path for Observing Localization

    Full text link
    We demonstrate that a knowledge of the density-of-states and the eigenstates of a random system without gain, in conjunction with the frequency profile of the gain, can accurately predict the mode that will lase first. Its critical pumping rate can be also obtained. It is found that the shape of the wavefunction of the random system remains unchanged as gain is introduced. These results were obtained by the time-independent transfer matrix method and finite-difference-time-domain (FDTD) methods. They can be also analytically understood by generalizing the semi-classical Lamb theory of lasing in random systems. These findings provide a new path for observing the localization of light, such as looking for mobility edge and studying the localized states. %inside the random systems..Comment: Sent to PRL. 3 figure

    Modified Norris–Landzberg Model and Optimum Design of Temperature Cycling ALT

    No full text
    Accelerated life testing (ALT) is an effective way to assess the lifetime of a product. Due to the complex nature of its testing profile, it is difficult to carry out temperature cycling ALT. This paper establishes a modified Norris–Landzberg model as acceleration model, and proposes the optimum design method of temperature cycling ALT. First, the FEA method is used to study the influence of temperature cycling profile parameters on the thermal fatigue life of 63Sn–37Pb solder joints. Then, a modified Norris–Landzberg model is proposed by introducing ramp time and dwell time with an added weight value. Finally, the temperature cycling ALT is regarded as a special multi-stress ALT to study its optimum design method. The uniform design theory is used to determine the combined mode. The optimum model is established with the objective of minimizing the asymptotic variance of the estimation of median lifetime under normal use conditions, and the simulation example shows the workability of the proposed method

    Imaginary Potential as a Counter of Delay Time for Wave Reflection from a 1D Random Potential

    Get PDF
    We show that the delay time distribution for wave reflection from a one-dimensional random potential is related directly to that of the reflection coefficient, derived with an arbitrarily small but uniform imaginary part added to the random potential. Physically, the reflection coefficient, being exponential in the time dwelt in the presence of the imaginary part, provides a natural counter for it. The delay time distribution then follows straightforwardly from our earlier results for the reflection coefficient, and coincides with the distribution obtained recently by Texier and Comtet [C.Texier and A. Comtet, Phys.Rev.Lett. {\bf 82}, 4220 (1999)],with all moments infinite. Delay time distribution for a random amplifying medium is then derived . In this case, however, all moments work out to be finite.Comment: 4 pages, RevTeX, replaced with added proof, figure and references. To appear in Phys. Rev. B Jan01 200

    Search for the Rare Decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e, J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e, and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e-

    Full text link
    We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7 J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e + c.c.) D0bar e+ e- + c.c.)<1.1*10^-5Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

    The absolute branching fractions for the decays D0Ke+νeD^0 \to K^-e ^+\nu_e and D0πe+νeD^0 \to \pi^-e^+\nu_e are determined using 7584±198±3417584\pm 198 \pm 341 singly tagged Dˉ0\bar D^0 sample from the data collected around 3.773 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC. In the system recoiling against the singly tagged Dˉ0\bar D^0 meson, 104.0±10.9104.0\pm 10.9 events for D0Ke+νeD^0 \to K^-e ^+\nu_e and 9.0±3.69.0 \pm 3.6 events for D0πe+νeD^0 \to \pi^-e^+\nu_e decays are observed. Those yield the absolute branching fractions to be BF(D0Ke+νe)=(3.82±0.40±0.27)BF(D^0 \to K^-e^+\nu_e)=(3.82 \pm 0.40\pm 0.27)% and BF(D0πe+νe)=(0.33±0.13±0.03)BF(D^0 \to \pi^-e^+\nu_e)=(0.33 \pm 0.13\pm 0.03)%. The vector form factors are determined to be f+K(0)=0.78±0.04±0.03|f^K_+(0)| = 0.78 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.03 and f+π(0)=0.73±0.14±0.06|f^{\pi}_+(0)| = 0.73 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.06. The ratio of the two form factors is measured to be f+π(0)/f+K(0)=0.93±0.19±0.07|f^{\pi}_+(0)/f^K_+(0)|= 0.93 \pm 0.19 \pm 0.07.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
